Al Khuwair Development & Services Company LLC (AKDS) an OMZEST Group Company, was incorporated in the year 1983. The Company was set up along with some leading business houses in the Sultanate of Oman. The Company had a humble beginning, with a building it purchased and rental from the same being the only source of income.

The surplus funds were invested in reputed companies listed on the Muscat Securities Market, thereby creating another source of income i.e. dividend.

In the year 1992, AKDS helped M/s Essar Oil Ltd. an India based oil drilling contractor establish an office in the Sultanate and to bid for oil drilling contracts with Petroleum Development of Oman. AKDS thus became Essar Oil Ltd.'s resident sponsor in Oman.

From the year 1996, AKDS intensified its investment activities by investing in some more reputed companies on the Muscat Securities Market, thereby increasing its investment portfolio substantially. It has since further diversified its investment activities in stock markets abroad.
