Founded by Dr. Omar bin Abdul Muniem Al Zawawi in Muscat, the WCAS mission is to promote high international quality education in Oman that prepares students for modern, high quality jobs. Information Technology, Biotechnology, Management Sciences, and Humanity have been chosen as four faculties to cover a wide range of career opportunities. Information Technology and Management Sciences are already well-established leaders in offering careers. Careers in Biotechnology offer the fastest growth potential in healthcare, agriculture, energy and environmental management. The WCAS campus, located in IT Park (Knowledge Oasis), Rusayl, promises state-of-the-art teaching facilities, laboratories and library. Admission is open to all nationalities and both sexes. All programmes are conducted in English.

BIT, The Academic Partner
WCAS started functioning in Muscat from October 2001 in collaboration with the Birla Institute of Technology (deemed University), located in Ranchi (India). BIT was founded by the Philanthropist and Industrialist the Late Mr. B.M. Birla in 1955 as a pioneering institution of technical education and research. It is a fully residential university. Over the past few decades, BIT has emerged as a premier Indian University, recognized internationally for its academic excellence, research and entrepreneur development and ranks amongst the top engineering Universities in India.

BIT is a full member of the Commonwealth Universities and Association of Indian Universities. It is well recognized in the USA & UK. Over the past decade, almost all graduating students have either been absorbed by industry during the final year itself or selected for higher education in India and abroad.

Academic Calendar
Academic activity in a year is divided into two semesters of about four and half months each. Normally the first semester would commence from September to January and the second semester from February to June.

Eligibility for admission, entrance evaluation and foundation courses.
All students who have completed senior secondary level or equivalent examination (with minimum 60% marks in aggregate for BE degrees and 50% marks aggregate for other degrees) are eligible to apply. Entrance examinations for evaluation are compulsory. Students will be offered admission to the above courses or appropriate foundation courses based on their performance in the entrance evaluation examination. Evaluation examination will be held for English, Physics, Mathematics/Biology and Chemistry as appropriate. CBSE-AIEEE scores will be valid for admission. For MBA, students having minimum 50% marks in aggregate at the Graduate level exams and for EMBA, students having minimum 50% marks in aggregate at the Graduate level and 2 years post qualification experience at Manager/Supervisor level or 5 years of post qualification work experience are eligible to apply for admission. The firm admission to the degree programme will be granted only after and on the basis of the entrance evaluation test conducted by WCAS in Muscat.

Visa
Admission is open to all nationalities and student visa, if desired, will be obtained by WCAS.

Transfer to BIT Ranchi
WCAS would provide facilities/permit transfer of students to BIT’s main campus at Mesra, Ranchi or its other extension centres in India for genuine reasons.

WCAS timings
Timings of WCAS are from 8.30 AM to 5 PM from Saturday to Wednesday.

WCAS Computer LabScheme of instructions
The academic activity shall be divided into theory and sessional. A theory type of academic activity shall involve concepts, fundamental ideas and techniques well laid out in textbooks or open literature . It will have a minimum of 45 contact lessons in a semester that shall enable the student to earn one unit of academic credit, provided he/she fulfills the attendance and grade requirements as specified hereinafter.

Coverage in sessionals will be through laboratory experiments, design exercises, project or any other academic work which would train the student by practice, repeated use and hands-on-experience.

Attendance requirement
In each subject a minimum attendance of 75% is required to enable the student to appear for the end semester examination. Those who do not fulfill the requirement in any subject will be awarded F grade in that subject.

Examination
Each theory type of subject will be evaluated for a maximum of 100 marks per unit through progressive assessment through cycle test/attendance/Assignment (50% marks) and an end-semester examination of two hours duration(50% marks). For MBA & EMBA, the progressive assessment 40% and end-semester examination 60%. Each sessional type of subject will be evaluated for a maximum of 100 marks per unit through progressive assessment (60% marks) based on day-to-day performance and end semester examination (40% marks) vivavoce/written test.

WCAS ClassroomDiscipline
Rules of conduct and academic regulations of WCAS are to be strictly observed and a serious note will be taken for any violation leading to disciplinary action.

Graduating requirements

  • For BE degrees a student must earn 66 units;
  • BBA and BCA 42 Units;
  • BBA/BCA(Hons.) 56 Units,
  • MBA – 28 Units
  • EMBA 24 Units of Credit.

Graduation level student must achieve a grading of ‘C’ or above and Post Graduation level student must achieve a grading of ‘B’ or above to pass in a given subject. If a student obtains a grade point average of less than 4.5 in a semester examination, then he/she shall be placed under probation and will be given less than normal load in the next semester as per academic regulations. However, if a student is placed on probation in first or second semester examination and does not obtain a GPA equal to or greater than 5.0 in the consecutive semester examination, the student shall be dropped from the programme.

How to apply
The application forms can be obtained from the office of WCAS. Application forms, completed in all respects with choices of programmes, should be submitted with registration fees of RO 25/- (non-refundable) in the college office. The eligible applicants will be notified of the venue, time and date of the entrance examination.

Programme duration
The BE,BCA(Hons.) and BBA & IT, BBA & Commerce, BBA & Finance, BBA & Accountancy, BBA & Banking, BBA & HRD programmes are of four years (eight semester) duration whilst the BCA and BBA programmes are of three years (six semesters) duration, while MBA & EMBA programmes are of two years(six trimesters) duration. The bachelor degree part time programmes would have a minimum duration of 10 semesters, based on satisfactory performance of the student(s).

WCAS Convocation CeremonyWCAS also register students for part time BBA, BCA & EMBA programmes. Late afternoon or evening classes for part time students are conducted. Facility of credit transfers from other universities will be considered as per rules.
