From a humble beginning in 1972, dealing in gas cookers, bed heads, Perspex sheets, typewriters, Sun Beam equipment, air-conditioners, etc. to one of the leading multi-faceted prestigious companies in Oman, with agencies of world renowned companies. This, in short, sums up the commendable growth route of Zawawi Trading Company (ZTC). With the acquisition of Daimler AG (erstwhile Mercedes-Benz), agency in end 1972, the Company has never looked back.

Today, after about 38 years, ZTC is a multi-divisional company, running five full-fledged operating divisions:

• Automotive Division:
  Sales: Selling vehicles ranging from passenger cars to commercial vehicles
  Workshop: With state of the art facilities and dedicated personnel for professional after sales service
  Spare Parts: Dealing in vehicle spares and accessories
• Agriculture: Dealing in tractors and implements
• Projects & Business Development: Executing EPC projects in Communications, Mechanical and Instrumentation fields and trading related products.
• Marine: Sales and service of marine engineering equipment like High Speed Diesel Engines under the brand names MTU, Detroit; Marine Gearboxes and other marine and shipboard machinery; MTU Onsite Energy solutions for land based power and energy requirements; MTU diesel engines for applications like Construction & Industrial, railways, oil and gas etc. Marine Vessels, Dredging & Reclamation.
• Electrical: Dealing in power generation, transmission line and distribution equipments, Raychem termination and joints, corrosion protection products & Desalination plants.

AUTOMOTIVE DIVISION

SALES

ZTC is the Authorized General Distributor of the entire range of Mercedes-Benz cars and commercial vehicles in the Sultanate of Oman for over 37 years. During this period ZTC has established itself as the market leader in all segments of the Mercedes-Benz product range.

ZTC also offers a wide range of certified pre-owned Mercedes-Benz cars. All cars undergo a thorough quality check before they are offered for sale.

The Automotive Division also has the franchise of the exclusive "Maybach" and "SLR" range of cars.

WORKSHOP

The workshop has state-of-the-art facilities to match the product requirements. This includes a site assistance for customers, a courtesy car scheme, a mobile workshop for on-the-spot attention, service at the customer's place for major fleet owners, drop-off service to customers leaving their vehicles in the workshop, free technical inspection and repair estimates if the jobs are carried out at the workshop.

ZTC’s Mercedes-Benz Service Centre provides customers with premium service for Mercedes-Benz passenger cars and Commercial vehicles. Most of the technicians, supervisors and customer-attending staff have received training from Mercedes-Benz; either in-house or at the Regional Centre, U.A.E. and at times at the factory in Germany. On the job training is a continuous process in the workshop.

SPARE PARTS

The Spare Parts Division supplies a complete range of genuine parts for Mercedes-Benz, Maybach and SLR passenger cars, commercial vehicles, industrial engines and buses

Apart from spare parts, the division also supplies various accessories and specialised equipment.

AGRICULTURAL DIVISION

The Agricultural division specialises in tractors and farm equipment. Massey Ferguson tractors were introduced in Oman 34 years ago and since then have been the market leaders with almost 80% share of the market. The division also represents Daedong Tractors in small/compact range to meet the requirements of small farmers. In addition to this, the division has also commissioned small/ medium size Turnkey projects such as Animal Feed Mill, Natural Fertiliser Plant, Milk Filling Line and Milking Parlour.

PROJECTS & BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

Projects & Business Development Division has been actively involved in sales and marketing of Communications, Mechanical, Instrumentation, Controls and BMS products for the last three decades.

With a team of competent Sales and Service Engineers, supported by a high availability of spare parts and fully fledged service department, the division provides total solutions to customers including supply, installation, commissioning and maintenance. The Division is mainly involved in project related sales of its multitude of products like PABXs, Payphones, Point of Sale Terminals, Military Communication Systems, Petrochemical Projects, Controls and Building Management Systems, indoor air treatment, etc.

The Projects & Business Development Division with its diversified product range caters to the needs of the majority of public and private sector organisations, including Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Transport & Communications, Royal Oman Police, Petroleum Development Oman, Oman Telecommunications Company, Diwan of Royal Court and various other Ministries and Contractors, as well as providing maintenance and support to ZTC’s internal IT and communication systems.

MARINE

The Marine Division has been involved in the sales and service of marine engineering equipment like High Speed Diesel Engines, Marine Gearboxes, Ship Automation and Control System, Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS), Integrated Machinery Control System(IMCS), Complete Propulsion Packages including water jets, Shafting Propellers, Controllable Pitch Propellers(CPP), Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Systems, for more than three decades.

We are the authorized distributor for MTU Friedrichshafen GmbH, Germany and MTU Onsite Energy (both Tognum A.G. group companies) for all their products and services, i.e. state of the art and cutting edge technology High Speed Diesel Engines and complete drive system under MTU, Detroit and MTU Onsite Energy brands for applications like::

• Marine Propulsion and Onboard Power Generation (up to 9100 KW rating)
• On-site Power Generation System including Gas Gensets for Emergency/standby Power, Continuous Power and Peak Load operations
• Commercial and industrial applications
• Heavy Land and Railway applications
• Military Vehicles
• Oil & Gas industry

We are also authorized representative for ZF Marine Gearboxes and Transmission Systems used onboard high speed naval and governmental vessels, commercial marine, ferries, workboats, pilot vessels and pleasure crafts etc.

In association with its international principals, the Division also undertakes turnkey contracts in the diversified fields including dredging, reclamation and marine construction and also supply of Patrol Boats, Pleasure Boats etc.

Our Sales activities are backed by our firm commitment to provide world class in country after sales support, which includes a well stocked spare parts warehouse and a well equipped workshop with well trained and OEM qualified service engineers and technicians. In addition to the dedicated marine workshop under construction, we are offering onsite support through a number of containerized semi mobile workshops and mobile workshops

Our customer base includes majority of public and private sector organisations, including Ministry of Defence, Royal Oman Police-Coastguard, Royal Yachts, Port Services Corporation, National Ferries Company, Diwan of Royal Courts and many other ministries and contractors.

ELECTRICAL DIVISION (Electrical & Corrosion Protection)

The Electrical Division is based on a novel combination of high-tech industrial products and service agencies. It is focused on the sale and marketing of products and services from worldwide principals viz. Power Generation, Transmission & Distribution, Corrosion protection and water systems. Products include:

Energy: Base Load Medium to Large Power Station, Transmission Line Hardware, Insulators, Sub-station Connectors, Surge Arrestors, Power / Distribution Transformers, MV / LV Switchgear, Cable Joint / Termination & Accessories, FOC Accessories, heat tracing systems, Solar Energy Systems, MAN Diesel engine spare parts and services

Corrosion Protection: Thermoplastic Heat Shrinkable Material, Internal and external epoxy and Cathodic Protection of Pipeline and Tanks.

Water Systems: MS steel pipes, EPC Contracts and O&M for Water Desalination & Waste Water Treatment Plants.

JV with VA Tech Wabag: In a move to further strengthen and consolidate its leadership position in the Sultanate, Zawawi Trading Company (ZTC) has entered into a joint venture with VA Tech Wabag, a leading multinational corporation engaged in total water management. This agreement between Zawawi Trading Company and VA Tech Wabag taps into the ‘Operation and Maintenance’ business in the water space in Oman. WA Tech Wabag is scheduled to commence construction of a desalination plant in March 2011 and the project is expected to be completed by March 2013. VA Tech Wabag will be responsible for the design, engineering, project management, and commissioning and operation management of the plant.
A joint venture with Zawawi Trading Company will further signify a strong partnership focused in the O&M sector to effectively enable ZTC — Wabag to compete in the Oman Water Market. VA Tech Wabag has already executed a 54 MLD STP Al Ansab Project with MBR Technology for Haya Water and a 6,000 cubic metre (6 MLD) seawater plant for RAECO in Oman. It is currently executing the seawater desalination plant of 16MLD capacity for Majis Industrial Service SAOC.
